The Island (Bristol) - February 2023The uncertainty and precarity of the future suddenly become the new subject-matter; subjected to constant observation, life under surveillance compels the current generation of artists to portray their experiences of a society in decline. In response to a world that is being systematically quantified and categorised, there is an inherent escapist or dreamlike quality in much of the work as well as a marked shift toward automatism; the use of digital imagery brings into question our blind acceptance of a virtual reality.
